Today, I followed these instructions and “hibernated” my LinkedIn account. I had to take an extra step to disconnect my account from a “LinkedIn Learning Enterprise license”, which is two jobs old now (I hope it wasn’t costing them anything), but otherwise it was a painless process. Unless I find myself really missing access to the LinkedIn network, I expect to close the account entirely by the end of the year.
Since I last wrote about social media, I’ve deleted several accounts: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Goodreads spring to mind. There’s something to miss about each of these platforms, but overall none of them were worth hanging onto: first, recent trends suggest that they’ll only become less relevant; secondly, I need to be more mindful about what personal information I share online now that scammers pretend to be me.
If you wound up here looking to get in touch, email is the best way to reach me—I’d love to hear what you’re up to. I’m also fairly active1 on Mastodon/the Fediverse2 these days too.
